PROJECT RENEWAL

New York, New York

Although the United States lacks the comprehensive social safety nets of other advanced economies, it is fortunate to have such organizations as Project Renewal, a non-profit organization founded in 1967 to help eradicate homelessness through retraining, employment and affordable housing developments. BR Design was retained to design the organization’s new, one-floor, 40,000-square-foot corporate office within an old printing press building in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood. Conceived to accommodate growth and improve efficiency, the contemporary workspace features open-plan workstations along the perimeter and glass-fronted interior offices, accommodating training and counseling areas, administrative offices, meeting rooms and interview areas. The spacious proportions and robust architecture of the base building inspired the design team to effectively incorporate such existing construction details as exposed high ceilings slabs, exposed round columns with flaring capitals, and industrial windows into the clean, informal yet functional interiors, which are appointed in attractive, modern furnishings. Triangular-shaped LED lighting fixtures echoing Project Renewal’s logo and a color scheme featuring Project Renewal’s signature color give the facility a look that is uniquely its own.
